19:43 – Motion Q3 carries after an extensive debate started by Ed McCann (Lib).

 

19:21 – Ed McCann (Lib) asks for us to refuse to default to citing Islamophobia and instead calls for us to approach racial and religious intolerance with more constructive discussions and responses.

 

19:18 – Kim Murphy (SAlt) moves the Motion, Q3 ‘Fighting Islamophobia on Campus’

It looks to be spoken on by all present factions (NLS) (SLS) (Gra) (Lib) (SAlt) (Soli).

 

19:15 – The Motion, Q2 passes.

 

19:13 – Lachlan Ward (NLS) now defending his tone.

 

19:11 – Lachlan Ward’s (NLS) tone is criticised by Eleanor Morley (SAlt).

 

19:04 – President, Chloe Smith (NLS) surrenders the Chair to speak in support of the motion and therefore the shutdown.

 

18:53 – Motion Q2 ‘Rally Against The Restructure March16’

Some interesting developments here. (SAlt) and (Soli) Councillors have called out (NLS) for not supporting the Rally’s Facebook event page. They have called for a shutdown of the SRC during the rally.

(Gra) (SLS) support the shutdown.

After initially rejecting the shutdown, Lachlan Ward (NLS) admitted to being open to the idea  to accept the motion if SRC Caseworking and Legal Services are agreeable to a 1 – 3pm shutdown of the SRC during the rally on Wednesday 16 March 2016.

18:44 – Motion Q1 ‘Solidarity with the Let Them Stay campaign’ passes with the amendment that ALL Councillors should protest the appearance of Minister for Immigration and Border Protection, the Hon Peter Dutton MP at a Young Australians for a Constitutional Monarchy event in Sydney on 10 March 2016.

Liberal Councillors dissent.

 

18:37 – A condolence motion proposed by Cameron Caccamo (CAC) on the passing of much loved Sydney University student, Elliott Miller on 1 March 2016. Motion passes unanimously.

 

18: 30 – Welcome to the second regular meeting of Sydney University’s 88th Students Representative Council held in the Professional Boardroom, Main Quadrangle.
